Welcome to the Wildlife Toxicology Lab for Texas Tech University®
The Wildlife Toxicology Laboratory at The Institute of Environmental and Human Health (TIEHH) at Texas Tech University is dedicated to studying the effects of environmental contaminants, disease, and/or parasites on the reproduction, health, and well-being of wildlife. At this time, the laboratory is studying the effects of toxic metals, including lead and cadmium, in birds and has just completed a major investigation of organochlorine pesticide residues in Northern bobwhite (Colinus virginianus) quail in the Rolling Plains of West Texas. We are also investigating the potential impact of nanomaterials on avian wildlife. Emerging as a major investigation is the role of parasites in affecting survival and reproduction in bobwhite quail.
Our facilities for field and laboratory research are excellent, particularly for birds. We are currently in an expansion mode with the laboratory, including bringing on new doctoral students and Post-Doctoral Research Associates.
The Wildlife Toxicology Laboratory at Texas Tech University received a $305,171 award from Park Cities Quail to continue research on the impact of eyeworm infections in wild bobwhite quail in the Rolling Plains of West Texas.
Texas Environmental Excellence Award Finalist
Dr. Kendall has been named a finalist in the Individual category for the 2013 Texas Environmental Excellence Award by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).
SETAC Fellows Award
Ron Kendall was selected as a SETAC Fellow and awarded this honor at the 38th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC), held in Minneapolis, MN, November 12-16, 2017.
Stephen J. Klaine Environmental Education Award
Ron Kendall was awarded the Stephen J. Klaine Environmental Education Award from SETAC North America at the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry’s 38th Annual Meeting held November 12-16, 2017, in Minneapolis, MN.
