Philip N. Smith

 


 

Bio

Phil is originally from Paducah, Kentucky where he graduated from Saint Mary High School.  Phil’s undergraduate degree in chemistry and biology was completed at Murray State University.  After working in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, Phil began his graduate work at The Institute of Wildlife and Environmental Toxicology, Clemson University.  He then transferred to Texas Tech University.  His dissertation research was done in western Kentucky at the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant.  He received his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Environmental Toxicology from Texas Tech in 2000. 

Phil then joined The Institute of Environmental & Human Health (TIEHH) at Texas Tech as a Research Assistant Professor.  In 2002, Dr. Smith was appointed Assistant Professor and has since advanced to Associate Professor.  Dr. Smith is an ecotoxicologist whose research interests center on ecological and physiological characteristics of organisms, populations, and environments that facilitate contaminant exposure and adverse health effects.  His research examines exposure and pathways of contaminant exposure among mammals, birds, and a variety of aquatic organisms, trophic-level transfer of environmental contaminants, and population-level responses to contaminant exposure. 

Phil is married and has two wonderfully exuberant boys……
