January 31, 2011 Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar's paper, “Technical Textiles: Opportunities" received the best technical paper award at the 66th Annual Conference of the Textile Association (India). Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar, Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Toxicology at The Institute of Environmental and Human Health (TIEHH) presented his invited paper at the Annual Conference of the Textile Association (India) on January 29th. The Association is the largest in the field of textiles with over 22,000 members. This conference attracted about 500 participants and was held in Bangalore, India. Among all the talks, Ramkumar's paper was judged the best by a set of juries. The award was presented to him at the valedictory ceremony of the event in the presence of the President and the Vice-President of the Association. Participants from India, China, Switzerland and Germany attended the two day conference. TIEHH featured in articles related to receiving the Best Technical Paper Award |

September 29, 2009 Dr. Jaclyn Cañas has been identified as a semi-finalist in the Lubbock Economic Development Alliance’s competition for the “20 Under 40” Award. The announcement appeared in the newspaper and is posted on our “News Bulletin Board”. They identify Dr. Cañas as a member of “The Institute of Environmental and Human Health, Texas Tech University” which gives us even more recognition. Also, there are quite a few significant names that appeared in the newspaper, so she is in good company. The finalists will be identified in mid-October and we wish her well to win this award. |

August 31, 2009 Texas Tech Provost Bob Smith was the Chief Guest and keynote speaker for JASHNN-09, an annual gala of TTU's India Student Association (ISA) on August 29, 2009, at TTU. Dr. Ronald J. Kendall, Professor and Chair, Department of Environmental Toxicology, and Director of The Institute of Environmental and Human Health (TIEHH) gave a presentation on TIEHH's research successes and international outreach, particularly to India. Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar, Associate Professor of Environmental Toxicology and Faculty Advisor to ISA briefed the gala attendees about TTU efforts with India and India-US relationships. Appachi Arunachalam, research staff at TIEHH and President of ISA kick-started the gala. The event attracted 600 people from the Texas Tech and Lubbock communities, and included a cultural extravaganza. July 17, 2009 Dr. Seshadri Ramkumar, Associate Professor of Environmental Toxicology at The Institute of Environmental and Human Health delivered invited lecture to B. Tech students at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology, South India on July 17, 2009. In addition, he was invited to participate as an invited guest in the valedictory function of “AICTE sponsored Staff Development Program,” on July 18th and delivered the felicitation speech. Bannari Amman Institute of Technology is a premier engineering institute in India, which just received Grade A from National Assessment and Accreditation Council of India. |

June 5, 2009 Deborah Carr and Adcharee Karnjanapiboonwong, graduate students in the Department of Environmental Toxicology at Texas Tech University, have each received a grant of up to $5,000 from the Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI) to support their research. Carr’s proposal is titled “Biotransformation of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) at an Effluent Land Application Site,” and Karnjanapiboonwong’s proposal is titled “Occurrence of Pharmaceuticals and Personal Care Products (PPCPs) at an Effluent-dominated Wastewater Application Site: Estrogens, Triclosan and Caffeine.” Both students are advised by Dr. Todd A. Anderson. |
May 29, 2009 Dr. Todd Anderson, Professor of Environmental Toxicology, has been given the West Texas Association for Women in Science Champion of Women (C.O.W.) Award. The award is given to a male faculty or staff member at Texas Tech who has gone the extra mile to support women in science. Dr. Anderson was nominated by current and former female students, including students from 17 years ago when he was a post-doc at Iowa State University. |

April 30, 2009 The Institute of Environmental and Human Health (TIEHH) has been selected to receive the 2009 Texas Environmental Excellence Award in the area of education by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). TIEHH was selected for this award through the TCEQ organization and a State of Texas Blue Ribbon Panel established by the Governor’s office. The institute will be recognized by Gov.
